Tamiya TT01 Type E

This started out as a Tamiya TT01 D (D stands for Drift). As soon as I got it, I tried my best to turn it into a TT01 R (R wow items stands for Racing). I upgraded all the parts that I could afford and it performed exceptionally well against some top cars in the Stock Touring class. Now with the introduction of the TT01 Type E (don't ask me what the E stands for), new parts came out to fill in where the old car missed out. You could buy the new car or do what most of us did, simply buy all the new parts. It only consists of a few part trees which cost me Php 750 for the entire set.

New Gear Covers and Shock Towers:The only problem with the old ones was that they were a bit flexible and didn't give any option for shock mounting position. The new gear covers and shock towers are made from fiber reinforced plastic which means they're a bit more rigid plus the new shock tower features an extra shock mounting position. In the near future, a carbon fiber shock tower option will come out.

New wow gold Motor Cover and Motor Mount:

We all knew that the TT01 was lacking big time in the motor mount. The original motor mount and cover didn't have a wow gold proper fit which meant that the motor would wobble around. This is a terrible drawback as it didn't allow us TT01 owners to fit in a more powerful motor without breaking the gears. With a new motor cover and motor mount made from the same fiber reinforced plastic as the gearboxes, the fit is now snug even if you use the option metal motor mount. Great work Tamiya!

New Steering System:

The old steering system is simply screwed on the chassis and was very sloppy. Main straights would be traveled like a slalom as the car would wobble around the track with a very loose steering system. The new steering posts and bellcranks are inspired from the TA05. It now features bellcranks with bushings (upgradable to bearings) and are flawless. They really removed the slop in the steering with this new addition. No need to buy those expensive aluminum steering options.

New Upper Deck:

I used to run the TT01 with the carbon fiber upper deck. It was an option part made to help keep the car more rigid. A new plastic upper deck is now available which does a better job than the older carbon fiber upper deck. The new plastic deck is held on by 6 screws compared to the 4 on the old carbon deck. More screws means less flex. It also serves a purpose of keeping the steering system in place. Although I might want a more rigid material than plastic, I simply look past that setback and see that this new upper deck serves more purpose than it should. It now has a transponder mount and a new antenna mount. This is a big help as the old car didn't have any place to mount the transponder and the antenna was mounted all the way at the back of the car.

New Battery Brace:

The old battery brace did its job pretty well but it didn't give that snug fit and allowed wow items the battery to dance around the car as it ran. The new brace is made from a more flexible material which gives more flexibility depending on what batteries you're using. It also gives that well needed support for your batteries. It might be a small thing but it does give out a lot of advantage.

New Bumper Mount:

The old bumper mount served its purpose well but this was something I didn't really see as a problem, but somehow Tamiya improved something that didn't buy wow gear need improving. We didn't mind that the bumper was mounted on a floppy piece of plastic which deformed a bit on impact but the Tamiya engineers didn't like this. A new bumper mount on the top is reshaped to give more top support for the bumper. The old design held the bumper in place on the underside only. This new mount also gives support at the top. I just hope things hold a lot better this time on impact.

It's a wonderful feeling to know that Tamiya has been listening to all our concerns all this time. They've managed to improve a bulletproof car such as the Tamiya TT01. It was a great car but had some misses here and there and with the Type E, they were able to patch up on those holes. I still don't know how this new configuration would handle, but a day at a track would surely answer my question.
